Banana Diet- Too Good to Be True?

Well, first we had the cabbage diet, then the grapefruit diet, the soup diet, and now there is a diet called the miracle banana diet. This writer simply states that it is hardly a miracle and is just one of many fad diets that are circulated to a desperate public who are willing to try anything to lose weight.

So, what is the banana diet all about?

The banana diet comes out of fad crazy Japan which also happens to be the birthplace of many fad diets. It got its start when an actress attributed her weight loss to eating...you guessed it....bananas.

The diet goes as follows:

  • For breakfast, eat as many bananas as you want. Follow up with some warm water (don't ask me why).
  • For lunch and dinner eat whatever you want.
  • You can't eat after 8 P.M. and you should be in bed no later than midnight.

The banana diet was created by a pharmacist who was looking for a way to increase the metabolism of her then overweight husband. He lost 37 pounds on the diet and eventually placed it on one of Japan's most popular social networks.
The diet really started to pick up steam when an actress jumped on the "banana train" and lost 17 pounds.

So is it for real?

The reality is that the banana diet is nothing more than a fad, much like the many other fad diets in which if it seems too good to be true, it typically is.
The reality is that you could replace the "banana" with another fruit and would likely see the same results.

The big problem for diets such as these is the fact that it essentially gives you a free pass to eat whatever you want outside of breakfast. For Americans, this is a recipe for disaster. Think about it....

Banana Diet vs. other Diets That Work

Like I said earlier, Americans would view the eat whatever you want as a free license to eat whatever they want just like many did during the Atkins diet craze. The problem with these types of fad diets isn't whether they work or not though. The problem is that a diet change should also accompany a lifestyle change as well.

The reality is that while the banana diet could work, most who decide to try it won't turn it into a lifestyle. They will simply stay on the diet until they reach some designated goal and then return back to their old eating habits.

For more information on a better diet plan, you can read my article, Sensible Diet Plans, which highlights what I believe everyone should eat because it was how we were designed to eat.  If you can follow my diet, I can guarantee that you will lose weight.  Not only that, it is safe.

Been on the Banana Diet and seen results?
