As strange as it may be, white skin is preferred worldwide (stranger still is the fact that those with the whitest skin...caucasions....prefer to get darker...) Perhaps the reason for this is that white skin typically can hide flaws better than darker skin.  Nonetheless, to say that the cosmetic market has not set its crosshairs on the Asian and Eastern Europe women who desire to have whiter skin is an understatement.  Popular cosmetic companies have found themselves competing with smaller, less known start-ups who have one thing on their mind; make money by delivering promises that they can't fully deliver without putting the customers at risk health wise.  In this hub, I will go over some skin whitening tips that you should consider before you invest your time, money and even your life into skin whitening products.

There are some ingredients that you will either want to avoid or in the very least, understand the risks associated with them.

Skin lightening products with mercuy or hydroquinone work and work very quickly. There is a "but" though. Both of these products have disfigured women and even cost them their life. In France and other countries, these products have been banned because of this and there is speculation that hydroquinone could cause cancer.

Because of this, you will want to avoid them if you can. And while sometimes "quick results" may seem tempting, consider the risks very carefully.

Don't buy from companies that you know very little about....

It should go without saying that before you choose which company that you will be giving your money to, you should always investigate them thoroughly. Bigger cosmetic companies like O'lay or L'oreal have a reputation to keep and won't throw out a shoddy product, although their bleaching creams may not have as significant of a result as their black market counterparts.

If you do buy from a less known company, do a little homework on them....

There is nothing wrong with going with a company that is lesser known but you will want to do your due diligence on them. Like I said before, some skin lightening creams and lotions can do more harm than good. And thanks to the internet, you have countless of others that probably have tried the bleaching cream before you and don't mind talking about what they like or don't like about it.

Some smaller companies such as Meladerm pride themselves on their guarantee and you will see many women giving them rave reviews.

Skin Bleaching Creams are probably the best option for those who want to whiten their skin.  Creams such as Physician's Complex 6% Bleaching cream utilize several natural skin whitening elements such as kojic acid and fruit extracts along with the highly effective hydroquinone to achieve whiter skin.

Natural Skin Whitening

Because of the ban on many highly effective bleaching agents, the cosmetic agency has dived into its roots and chosen to go au natural so to speak.  And the good news is that there are some great skin whitening creams that can hold their own and actually help to lighten up age spots, smooth out splotchy skin caused by pregnancy and sun damage and help diminish freckling in women.

Some of these ingredients include:

  • Beta Arbutin and Alpha Arbutin
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Licorice extract
  • Bearberry extract
These are phenomenal herbal remedies to help smooth out uneven skin tone and lighten the skin.  Alpha Arbutin, in terms of natural bleaching creams, is said to actually rival hydroquinone in effectiveness.
In the case of hyperpigmentation, typically the best skin lighteners will use a combination of several products.  The effects of all of these is similar to a deep exfoliation and can help repair some botched dermal treatments such as laser resurfacing and physician strength chemical peels.

Some of the best natural whitening tips would be considered common sense though.  Stay out of the sun as much as possible and when you are exposed to UV rays, make sure you have a strong sunscreen.

If you are using a bleaching cream, this is particularly critical advice as many of the whitening creams inhibit melanin, the chemical in our bodies that gives us our color.
