Products such as Skin Laboratory's Gel Peel, may offer some relief to those looking to self treat their rosacea. This particular product has salicylic acid, which naturally promotes skin exfoliation. The gel peel comes with different concentrates of salicylic acid (the product image is 20%) as well as alternative ingredients that do the same.
How to Treat Rosacea Naturally
Rosacea is a fairly common skin disorder in which the nose, cheeks, forehead or chin are chronically reddened. They are prone to break out in what looks like acne but isn't. Unlike acne, rosacea doesn't produce the typical blackheads or whiteheads and is more likely to be a problem after adolescence. The typical person who suffers from rosacea is in the 30-50 age group. Rosacea affects about 1 in every 20 Americans. There is no known cure for Rosascea.
Despite what some products claim, there is no known "cure" for Rosacea......
It is important to treat this condition immediately because if caught quickly, the condition may never progress. In advanced or chronic cases, rosacea causes permanent redness especially on the nose. Women are more likely to have rosacea than men but men tend to experience more severe cases.
So what causes Rosacea?
Researchers have discovered several triggers for Rosacea and although they vary from person to person, the catalyst for an outbreak appears to be anything that dilates blood vessels in the face. This can include:
- Alcohol
- coffee
- spicy foods
- exposure to the sun or wind
- Stress.
The problem that most people face when it comes to treating Rosacea is that there is not one common cause and it varies from person to person. The good news is that researchers have found links between rosacea and digestive problems. This is probably the first step to knowing how to treat rosacea
For instance, many rosacea sufferers have been found to have extremely low levels of stomach acid which in turn prevents proper digestion of key minerals. This can lead to an overgrowth of bacteria on the skin itself. Also, B-vitamin deficiencies appear to be fairly common with people who suffer from Rosacea. Probiotic organisms (ie. good bacteria) are also often depleted.

While food and drink could be the trigger that causes rosacea, a lot of times there are other things that are a bit off that could be tried. Since there is a connection between digestive problems and rosacea, there are many root causes that are associated with either eliminating toxins from the body or the body's ability to process vital minerals and vitamins associated with elimination and digestion. Here are some root causes of Rosasea....
- Low Levels of Stomach Acid-hydrochloric acid(HCI) supplements can help with low levels of stomach acid. However, because HCI supplements such as Betaine can also cause ulcers if misdiagnosed, it is important to take these supplements under the supervision of a doctor.
- A high fat/low fiber diet- The alternative is to eat vegetables, fruits, nuts and sprouts because they not only help convert food into nutrients that are beneficial to the skin and circulatory system, these all contain a fiber rich diet.
- Dysbiosis(imbalance of the gut bacteria)- A Betaine hydrochloric supplement will help with this. It also helps to prevent the overgrowth of bacteria in the digestive tract that may be an influencing factor for rosacea.
- Reaction to synthetic hormones
- Nutritional deficiencies- Most of the time the deficiency is in B Vitamins. If you can't get enough in your natural diet, you should supplement with a B-Complex vitamin. B-12 is especially good with reducing rosacea flare-ups.
- Constipation- A diet high in fiber will help with constipation. Also, coconut oil is known to keep bowels loose and freely moving.
- Hormonal Imbalance-Normally this is caused by menopause or a menopausal transition.

Treat Rosacea Naturally with Herbal Supplements
I can't emphasize enough that there is not one sole treatment for Rosacea and the treatments vary from person to person. This said, there are some herbal remedies for helping to reduce rosacea flare-ups. Once again, these herbs are primarily involved with improving digestion and elimination in the body....
Lipase Enzymes will help digest food more effieciently. People who suffer from Rosacea seem to benefit most from enzymes that help to digest fat.
Do NOT use steroid creams as this will just aggrevate the situation. While the problem of rosacea appears to be a surface issue, in reality it involves the constriction of blood vessels under the skin.
Milk Thistle can help with Rosacea because it improves overall liver function and helps detoxify the skin.
Additionally, there are studies that have shown that green tea may help with detoxifying the body as well. This is because green tea is rich in antioxidants and other substances that help with detoxification.
Another herbal supplement that may help with treating rosacea is Reishi because it improves liver function.
Chlorerlla, spirulina, alfalfa and other "green" foods are good for rosacea because they supply phytonutrients that help to improve skin health.
Essential fatty acids will help reduce inflammation of the skin. Fish oil and flaxseed oil are both excellent sources of fatty acids. Coconut oil also has some benefits.
Gentian Root helps to improve overall digestive function and could help with rosacea.
Finally, burdock root has been subscribed to as a treatment for rosacea as well as other chronic skin disorders. The way it works is it helps to balance hormones and works well with detoxification.
Rosacea and Mites
A type of microscopic mite known as demodex folliculorum has been found in significantly higher numbers in skin samples taken from people with rosacea. Researchers are currently looking into the connection between this organism, which feeds on cast-off skin cells, and rosacea. They think that the mite may cause a reaction which influences rosacea.
General Advice on Treating Rosacea Naturally
There are all sorts of things that could cause rosacea and since every case is different, someone who suffers with this skin condition has to recognize the things that trigger rosacea. Here are some natural ways to reduce the possibility of a rosacea outbreak.
Keep your diet clean- Eat raw vegetables and fruits, organic if possible. A good diet will go a long way to helping nearly all health problems. Since rosacea is so closely connected to digestion, a clean diet is especially important. Stay away from saturated or man made fats. Fats cause inflammation.
Your rosacea may be a food allergy. Don't rule it out. Keep a food diary for a month and when you see a flare-up, take a look at what you ate previously.
A fasting program such as a 3 day fast, once a month will help to detoxify your body.
Use natural and mild soaps when cleaning your face. Pat the skin down rather than rubbing it.
If you can, avoid wearing makeup. If you must, choose all natural make up.

Hi all,
I have never written to a forum in my life, but thought - I have been through so much stress trying to sort out my red flakey face, if i can help someone else - then i will save them the same pain.
So... unsure if i had seborrheic dermatitis or not, but i also had what seems to be a fungal type thing on the sides of my nose and cheeks, center of forehead.
Red cheeks (looks like i had been snow skiing with googles on), flakey T zone, sides of nose etc..... tried everything including 2 months of Doxycycline (terrible shit, made me dizzy and skin super sensitive).
Long story short - nothing worked. I eat very healthy (although have terrible sweet tooth), drink min 1.5L of water a day, am fit, not overweight - but cant shake this red flakey face. Talked to health shop hippy (no offfence, she was awesome), and she understood me - EASY......
In order of importance......
* Gave up sugar/yeast for one month (the fungus thrives on sugar & yeast)
* 4 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract 3 times a day (this creates an environment that a fungas cant live in, and kills fungus also)
* Probiotics x1 per day (can take more if needed)
* Earth Green Tea Toxin Cleanser (for keeping face clean, and externally helping the fungus die)
I swear to god - this is the answer!!!!! Think about it - If your skin has problems, it is your gut/internal telling you something is wrong!
Get everything back into balance inside - and see the results outside.
I have dropped the daily probiotics and have a drink of Natural yoghurt (acidopholis) every morning before i eat anything and at night I have rubbed some of the same yoghurt on my cheeks, has got rid of the last tiny traces of redness! AWESOME.
Try it - i know how it feels and this really is the easy way to do it. Please feel free to contact me for any other advice on the matter, i would love to help.

Thanks for addressing this problem. I am fortunate that I only have problems when I get really hot in the summer.
Just drink water. Believe me, theres no better antibiotic/antioxident for the skin than plain simple water. It will eliminate toxins, moisturize your skin from the inside out, get your liver functioning normally again. It will also help to nutrualize the stomach acid as water is completely neutral, so it isn't too acidic or too alkaline, its just the perfect balance.
If you're having a flare up and want relief, try steeping green tea and then dipping cotton balls into it and apply to your face. It is cooling and works well. I have also tried the made from earth products, the Green Tea Cleanser and Rose Hip serum and they work very well.
for the burning cheeks and bumps try Origins' Plantidote mega-Mushroom face serum. It really makes a difference in my face I typically don't need any prescription medication. Use in the morning before makeup (with sunscreen) and before bed on a clean face. Seems expensive at ~$70 for 1.7 oz but lasts about 9 months.
I appreciate your efforts for writing this hub.
really great hub with very good information... way to go!

Hello, I am 22 years old, and i have rosacea too. It is just on my cheeks, and I dont know what to do. They feel hot and itchy. I do not wear fondation, I just put this green cream stuff on it, to even out the colour. Is there anything i can put on my cheeks to well ease the heat, and bumps? thanks
Interesting hub on rosacea. This information is very helpful.
Normally I don't take the time to write reviews of anything, but the Made from Earth Green Tea Toxin Cleanser has changed my mind.
I am a 52-year-old woman and have had rosacea my entire adult life. It started out as acne when I was a teenager, then progressed to the rosacea stage later on, with much less acne. I have tried oral antibiotics, gels, lotions, and all of these were dermatologist prescribed. I even tried Murad products. Some treatments improved my complexion a little, some made my rosacea flare up even worse.
When I read some reviews about the Made from Earth products on the internet, I decided to try the Made from Earth "Green Tea Toxin Cleanser". Well...what a surprise.
After just a few weeks (while also using themade from earth rosehip serum) the redness was diminished, and after almost a month now, my rosacea symptoms are all but history. I just can't believe it.
I don't know what's in that stuff, but it works for me. I am completely satisfied with it. There is no odor, no greasiness as with some ointments. In fact, after applying it seems to tighten and smooth everything a little, and I have found that I receive all the benefits even using it once daily, in the morning.
I suppose if I used it twice daily I would probably have even better results. I guess I just wanted to make the tube last longer.
I wish they would make it in a larger size, then I may be more apt to use it more often, even though I don't really need to. My verdict is: if you have any symptoms of rosacea, give this a try and see if it doesn't improve your complexion quickly.

Hi! Im a 17 year old woman, and this is quite young to have rosacea at, according to doctors. Because of my age I first thought it was just really bad acne, but turned out I was wrong. The redness and breakouts occur on my chin predominantly and over my nose and slightly on my forehead. I am making this post so anyone else who is around my age will know that they are not alone with this condition. I have come a long way with the problem, using topical gels and going on fasts (I am a vegan). But I haven't cured it completely yet. I used Nude By Nature 100% natural makeup and this has helped alot! So please do try this makeup if you are a woman suffering from rosacea because it really does help. I tried it as it was recommended for sufferers of this condition. Now, call me crazy, but I have always felt my rosacea got worse when I put on weight?!? Anyway this hub is really helpful.
