How to Remove Freckles
By DrAlex
Freckles are caused by the sun and is your body's way to deal with the damaging UV rays that the sun delivers. They can also be inherited but typically the sun is the biggest culprit when it comes to dealing with getting freckles. They are closely related to age spots and are the result of hyperpigmentation in most cases.
That said, removing freckles or using methods to disguise your freckles will work but if you continue to be exposed to the sun, chances are good you will develop more freckles over time. because of this, the best advice I can give is to limit sun exposure and if you must be out in the sun, use a sun screen to create a wall between your skin and the damaging ultraviolet rays.
There are natural ways to remove freckles and then there are bleaching creams that will help whiten the skin and in effect remove the freckles as well. The most common way to treat freckles is to use the same methods that people over 55 with age spots use since both age spots and freckles are caused by essentially the same thing.
The first are the natural methods and while some people will tell you that they work, understand that natural methods to remove freckles is really hit and miss. Most of the time, there are three remedies that you will find....
- Lemon Juice
- Orange Juice
- Castor Oil
Both lemon juice and orange juice utilize absorbic acid in the fruit to make kind of like a chemical peel. As you probably know this absorbic acid can be used to literally burn the top layer of skin cells off the area that is being treated. In the case of severe freckles, this rarely works although minor cases may see an improvement. In either case, the actual removal of freckles probably won't happen.
The upside to using natural remedies on this type of skin condition is that they are cheap and easy. The downside is that results come at a very slow pace, if any results happen at all.
The most common way to treating and removing freckles is to do what the stars do; use bleaching creams to remove blemishes, age spots and...yes, even freckles. The most common bleaching cream is hydroquinone and yes, it is effective. The downside is the potential health risks associated with it which include cancer. In fact, many countries have outright banned bleaching creams with this ingredient.
A more natural approach (and one that many bleaching creams are using including Meladerm) is to use the plant extract Alpha Arbutin, which helps to inhibit melanin, the thing in our body that actually causes skin pigment. Tests for this have shown that it is effective for all types of hyperpigmentation including freckles.
