How to get rid of dandruff naturally

Dandruff currently affects at least 50,000,000 people worldwide and nearly 97% of the population will have dandruff at one point or another in their life. And business is good in the dandruff industry....people spend over $300,000,000 a year trying to combat the embarassing but none life threatening problem. If you are one of the 50 million people who are suffering from a blanket of white flakes on your collar, then this hub is for you. In this hub, I intend to tackle how to get rid of dandruff, the natural way. I will also discuss some of the triggers that cause dandruff.

If you are to believe that 97% of all people will have dandruff at least once in their life, then you should also believe that for most, dandruff is something that should be able to be cured. And while dandruff happens, there is still a question mark as to why it happens in the first place and what causes dandruff.

Many doctors believe that dandruff is caused by certain fungal and yeast properties that live on our skin. These doctors believe that dandruff happens when the fugus or yeast grows beyond our body's ability to control it.

Others believe that external factors such as stress can trigger dandruff to happen.

Still others believe that diet plays a huge importance in preventing dandruff.

So who is right? Well, I believe that everything any of these could play a factor in the cause of dandruff. And you knowing your body will most likely be able to identify and target what trigger is most likely causing your dandruff.

Here are some natural remedies for treating dandruff

  1. Vinegar- Many doctors believe that using a vinegar treatment is an effective way to treat dandruff. The reason behind this frame of thought is that vinegar will help to restore the scalp to its normal pH balance, thus eliminating the main cause of dry flaky skin.
  2. Get more fats in your diet-  When I say fat, I don't mean the greasy big mac at Mcdonald's.  What I do mean is the good fats like the ones that you get from salmon and nuts like flaxseed and almonds.  Good fats are great for the skin and will help with keeping that flaky dandruff at bay.
  3. Get more B Vitamins in your diet-  The B complex vitamins are very important to having good skin and many professionals believe that a diet deficient in B complex vitamins may be the cause of dandruff in some people.  If you don't feel like eating your vitamins, you can always go the route of taking supplements
  4. Reduce Stress-  Many researchers think that stress may cause dandruff.  If you live and work in a high stress environment, you may be increasing the likelihood of getting dandruff.

Popular Myths to getting Dandruff

There are a ton of myths in regards to dandruff.  Here are just a few that you may be interested in, especially if you or a loved one currently has dandruff....

  • If you have dandruff, you may go bald-  In reality, there is no connection between losing your hair and having dandruff.  For more information on natural hair loss remedies, click here.
  • If you have dandruff, you should brush your hair a lot-  Brushing your hair has no bearing on the amount of dandruff you have nor does it "create more dandruff".
  • You will get rid of dandruff by blowdrying your hair-  Once again this skin myth is totally preposterous.  In fact, you may be simply damaging your hair.
  • If you wash your hair too much, you will wind up with dandruff-  Another myth that was probably created by the shampoo industry.  While washing your hair too much could create dry hair, it has no bearing on whether you will get dandruff or not.
